Mesa Verde Log Home

The great room has floor to ceiling windows facing south with nothing but trees and rolling canyons as far as the eye can see! Relax and enjoy the aspen vaulted ceiling, slate floors and large outside deck with incredible views and a hot tub!  The kitchen, which is next to the great room, is fully equipped for your cooking pleasure or barbeque on the east covered porch with the gas grill . . .

There are two cozy bedrooms with double antique beds and a full bath next to the great room. Upstairs is a carpeted loft area overlooking the great room where a sleeping area could be improvised. From the loft enter the large private master bedroom which has a king-size bed upon a custom log frame. Off the master bedroom is the master bath with a beautiful tiled shower. Central air conditioning and heating will keep you comfortable during any season.

After a day of exploring or skiing, the six person Olympia Caldera hot tub awaits you on the south deck. This is indeed a splendid way to spend time around one of the wonders of the world, Mesa Verde National Park.

During many years the weather is mild enough on the March 1st opening date to golf in Cortez 10 minutes away and/or ski at one of the winter resorts nearby! Within 1 1/2 hours from this home you can choose from 2 world class ski resorts; Telluride Ski Resort or Durango Mountain Ski Resort. Moab, Utah and Canyonlands National Park are about a 1 1/2 hour drive.

This exclusive property is located in the four corners area where the states of Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Arizona meet. Many guests that stay here simply lock the gate behind them and enjoy the sun, privacy and panoramic views that define Southwest Colorado!

Mesa Verde National Park is only 19 miles away! This new custom built log home is located on 80 private acres right on the border of one of our nation's newest monuments, Canyon of the Ancients National Monument. This raw, natural, undeveloped monument encompasses 164,000 acres of federal land administered by the BLM in the four corners region of southwest Colorado.

The monument was established June 9, 2000, to protect the cultural and natural resources in this area which contains the highest known archaeological density in the nation. Portions of the monument have more than 100 cultural sites per square mile - some individual sites cover 10 acres or more.

If you look hard enough you will find pottery shards, arrowheads, possible kiva sites and other scattered remnants of this ancient culture on the 80 private acres the home sits on. Please do not remove or disturb any of these artifacts. Enjoy the ancient history of the region and one of the wonders of the world nearby at Mesa Verde.

If you long for peace and quiet, this is the place. The fall weather is gorgeous, the winters are mild and snow country is only a short distance away. The home rests on the edge of a series of tree covered canyons leading up to a spectacular view of the sacred Sleeping Ute Mountain. Not one other human made structure can be seen from the south deck of the cabin to the Sleeping Ute in the distance.

This is indeed remote but only minutes from the restaurants in downtown Cortez. From the 6400 ft. elevation enjoy panoramic views of the San Juan Mountain range and Mesa Verde.

From this location you can go east to Mesa Verde National Park 19 miles away or keep going to Durango 53 miles away. In Durango ride the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad train to Silverton or have an evening meal at the Bar D Chuckwagon [reservations required]. Travel north out of Durango to Durango Ski Resort, or keep going over the Million Dollar Highway to Silverton and Ouray.

Next head to Telluride and over Lizard Head Pass and then down through the Dolores Valley through Rico, an old mining town, then through Dolores and back to your log home. This is one of the most beautiful drives in the world!

You can go south and gamble at the Ute Mountain Casino at Towaoc, Colorado about 15 miles away. Visit the Ute Mountain Tribal Park where they give guided tours through their undeveloped archaeological ruins. Head north a few miles and visit the Hovenweep National Monument [ruins] and the Lowry Indian Ruins. Ski and snowboard at Durango Mountain Resort 1 1/2 hours away or play Golf at the Conquistador Golf Course 15 minutes away in Cortez. About a 1 3/4 hour drive will take you to the star-studded ski resort, Telluride.

After a day of hiking through the old growth pinion and juniper forest on the property enjoy the six person hot tub on the south deck overlooking the canyons below. West of the cabin is the 164,000 Canyon of the Ancients National Monument and beyond that in Utah the badlands of Robbers Roost where Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid hung out between numerous bank and train robberies. Enjoy the history and beauty surrounding Cortez and Durango.
